Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice-President of the United States. She is both the first female vice-president and the highest-ranking female official of the United States. A part of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and also as an United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. After starting her career as an Alameda County District Attorney, Harris was hired to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In the following years, she was the City Attorney of San Francisco. The office was named San Francisco district attorney in 2003. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010. In 2014, she was re-elected. Harris was the United States junior senator from California, from 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman to serve in Congress and the first South Asian American American to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator , and advocated for healthcare reform, federal cannabis de-scheduling, a pathway to citizenship for immigrants without a legal status as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons and progressive tax reform. Her pointed questioning of Trump officials in Senate hearings earned her national attention, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
